As we USA members did not get the diesel motor option, I would suggest that you either have an air entrapment problem in the coolant system or a bad headgasket from my past experience with VW diesel motors. Are you positive the thermostat was correctly installed, most are position specific for the usual "bypass" check valve in them.

Hi I had the same problem.
It was airlocked and took a lot of faffing about to sort it out. Every time I
thought I had sorted it out it would over heat but I got there in the end.
I just kept trying to bleed it.

Hi All,

Thanks for assistance - but just a quick update on our Chrysler Voyager 2.8 crd frustrations to date - I note similarities with other threads - Engine Loss of Power, Airbag light on and basically still no confirmed solution from local garage - apart from their could be significant piston damage now and not worth repairing...

So to date Garage have put in New Thermostat, New Coolant holder, New Radiator, New Head gasket work to the value of £000'S

First driver once head gasket completed - car fine for first easy journey but then climbing a 2 mile stretch of uphill cut out very dangerously in fast lane.

I replicated the exact same journey and again cut out up hill.

Garage have now said possibly something more significant with the pistons, needing engine rebuild etc - not really worth it.

So we have spent £000'S TO NO AVAIL.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated, before Voyager is scrapped leaving us hugely out of pocket

Its cutting out under load? I'd change the fuel filter first and foremost. The cutting out may not be related to your other issues.

I agree, I think there are several non-related issues going on here:
Airbag light - do other steering controls and horn work? If not then it's clockspring, well know failure, needs replacing. Otherwise airbag light can be all sorts, wiring under seats, connectors, seatbelt tensioners fired/failed.
Cutting out/loss of power - This is another common fault with the diesels, see many other posts, fuel filter, fuel pressure relief valve, injectors, etc.

As for the original problem, this is a little more odd and I'd be getting it back to the garage stating that they had it in to repair the fault, it's not repaired, keep working and not charging!

Is it drinking water? Emulsion appearing in the oil cap, or oil in the water bottle, constant white smoke on acceleration? Those point to a head gasket, crack in the block (Which I had).
Have they pressure tested/pressurised the coolant system to check for leaks?

To be honest, ignoring the simpler problems, this last one is the worrying one as could be game over, but it does need a little more investigation to be sure.

Hi All

Thanks for input, great suggestions.

I drove vehicle today and now sounds terrible, like something within the engine has given up.

Re garage - unsure how much further they are willing to work on vehicle, obviously I have paid a lot of money and the issue isn't fixed - but where does this leave me?

They are suggesting nothing further possible due to the significant internal damage, and after my testdrive earlier it does sound like it's really poorly.

Cheers
