Default Voyager Air-con

The air-con has packed up on our 1998 3.3 Voyager and it's not worth getting it fixed as we don't miss it now, so I'm wondering if the a/c pump can be by-passed by fitting a non-a/c serpentine belt.
Has anyone out there tried this?

Hardly worth the hasstle. The air con pump has a clutch on it's pulley which is always disengaged when the a/c is turned off. So the only thing spinning when the a/c is off is the pulley at the front of the pump and nothing else, so it is not hurting economy.

Thanks for your help.
I thought that might be the case but I wasn't sure.
