Question What Should My Oil Pressure Be At?

On a 3.6L Engine using SAE 5W-20 oil, what is a good oil pressure on idle when warm? and how much pressure increase per every 1k RPMs?

Thanks.

Historically, a good engine when hot should give around 60lbs/sq" when doing 40mph. or so, 45lb/sq" when idling. If you get 40lbs/sq" hot/motoring and over 15lbs/sq" idling (or at least not illuminating the oil pressure warning lamp) then that's "reasonable". All the quality old cars had oil pressure gauges on the dash-board. If you're buying and the oil-lamp comes on when idling and hot -- don't buy it! Only trouble when buying you don't know how much of that oil-thickening 'glop' has been poured in the sump. The glop is a a so-called viscosity improver, a polymer. It really does do what it says on the tin though.
