Angry Whistling noise on hard acceleration 2.8crd

Hi all.

Ive got a 2008 chrysler grand voyager 2.8 crd. It has a whistling noise when the turbo kicks in. At first i thought it was the turbo and so went through the painful task of replacing it. On test drive the noise is exactly the same. No difference at all which therefore rules out the turbo. The noise is not there unless the turbo is spooling. No noises at idle. Just when the turbo comes in. Once youve reached speed and lay off the revs the noise goes away but as soon as you put your foot down its back.

Am kind of hoping all you pros on here have any ideas. The car has had recent timing belt and water pump change but like i said no noises at idle.

Stumped.

Thanks in advance for any ideas or info.
Mark

On my 2007 I noticed an increase in the exhaust noise which at first I thought was the exhaust blowing. It turned out to be the EGR valve pipe. Have a look at my thread here:

Hey Mark

I've got exactly the same problem. I also thought it was the turbo, but after changing that, the whistling didn't go away.
I still don't know what makes the whistling sound, but I do believe it has to be some pipe, maybe the exhaust pipe?

What I did notice, while my car was lifted up, is that while opening waste gate manually on the turbo, the whistling went away. I think that the waste gate should open with certain pressure, but for some reason, it doesn't. For a brief moment I thought that the EGR solenoid electric valve(K05149105AA) was the issue. But I tried changing it, and it did not make any change..

Have you figured anything out, would love to know what the issue is.

Kind regards
Agris

i had this on my 2.8 crd 2005 and found that the inlet pipe to the turbo was not fitted correctly, cleaned and refitted, all good now
