Default Cigarette lighter

Hello all. My problem is with the cigarette lighter. I plug a cell phone charger in and it doesn't work. Just the charger alone, lights up like it should, plug a charging cord and lights go off, not charging. Bought new charger, same result. Anyone have any idea where I should start looking for the problem?

Might want to look into the socket with a good light and see if the electrical contact at the center is nice and clean and neither burned nor corroded. If you decide to clean it with something metallic, better disconnect the battery because in most vehicles, that socket is live all the time. It would be very easy to create a dead short.

Think the eraser on a pencil would be sufficient to clean the contact? If not I have some 2000 grit paper. I could wrap that around the eraser. I really appreciate your help

Try the eraser first. If it doesn't get it clean, go with sandpaper, but you'll need to be a lot more aggressive than you can be with 2000 grit. More like 200 grit.

they sell a direct wire usb module you can attach at a proper place at walmart or auto parts store. Find a blank relay space in the interior fuse panel and use a generic 30 amp relay to activate it. You will have to get ballsey with the fuse panel but you can make it work. I have a power inverter with a 110 plug and two usb plugs that I wired to my power seats relay location in the fuse panel. You will have to put a 15 amp fuse in the location of wherever you choose to get. It is a cool and easy mod. Also "they" do sell a complete cigarette lighter replacement online or at your local auto parts store. I will go take a picture of what I did in my vehicle.
