Default Key Issues

I have a 2012 Chrysler town and country. On a recent trip to the store I got into the wrong vehicle which was exactly like mine (same color etc). The doors happened to be unlocked. I proceeded to get into the vehicle and put the key into the ignition. I realized what happened and proceeded to get into my vehicle. Now, my vehicle has started acting funny. The key sometimes will not unlock the doors, just yesterday the vehicle wouldn’t start and a few other inconveniences. Could putting my key in another vehicles ignition damage mine or start to cause problems for mine? If not, what could be the problem. Battery is not the issue as we have had a new one installed within the last year. Thanks for any help!!!!

Try putting a new battery in the key fob. Even if you installed one last year it might not have been real fresh when installed. There's no way putting the key in the wrong vehicle would affect the key. The battery is the most likely culprit and is also the cheapest thing to try so it's what you should do first.

Ancient rule of car repair: When in doubt, fix the cheapest thing first.

The win module could be the problem. A lot of those vans had a recall for it. I’d check it out.
