rear main seal gasket options
First of all I think this forum is great!
I had the 3.5 in my LHS rebuilt and now I am putting the engine back together. The rear main seal is ready to go on. But I am wondering....what is better to seal the rear main seal housing to the block: Silicone or the gasket that came with the engine rebuilt kit?
When I took the engine out of my Cirrus, I noticed they used silicone on the 2.5 main seal housing. No gasket. And it NEVER leaked even up to the time when the engine died.
Oil leaks are a big pet peeve to me, and I don't want to replace this down the road after the engine and tranny are in the car.
