2002 300M Engine light on
So glad to find this forum, I appreciate any advice and input. I just purchased a 2002 300M and am so close to getting my safety certificate except for this engine light problem. I absolutely love this car and it's my first Chrysler. I will give you any information I have been able to gather to the best of my knowledge. I did hook it up to a diagnostic unit, but in all honesty it was when i first got it and I was at a buddy's house so I didn't write down the code. We believe it was P074? or P0174 or P0740 if any of those codes are valid. The car runs great and after some research I speculated it might be related to the transmission or a sensor related to the transmission. The car changes gears but I find it has to reach 3000 or 4000 rpm to switch and wondered if that might be related to the issue. Any guidance is much appreciated

A lean air/fuel mixture has been indicated.
There is no 0740 or 74
If its just a matter of the certificate. Disconnect the battery or pull the 2 pcm fuses for 10-15 minutes. This will reset the pcm and the light will go out temporarily. As for the higher rpm when shifting, is it a 300M Special? They shift around 3400-3600 rpm....or maybe the previous owner put a Special pcm in the car.

Engine light on
Thanks so much for the advice and reply. This is what I've done since the last post. I took it for an emission test to see what I was dealing with and came back with the following results
P0174 System too lean Bank 2
But the other problem is that the systems read "not Ready" for the Catalyst, Evaporative System and Oxygen sensor. I drove the car around for a couple of days on the advice of the mechanic as he said they should reset but they didn't and I got the same reading the second time around.
He suggested taking it to the dealer to have the computer flashed and to diagnose the P0174 code which kind of scared me when the mechanic said it could be a 1400 dollar repair since the manifold has to be removed.
I havent brought it in yet but took it upon myself to remove and clean the two o2 sensors closest to the front of the car on each side since they were easy to reach. I bought a proper o2 socket so as not to damage them and used an electrical terminal spray cleaner so as not to damage the sensor itself as well. It temporarily seemed to fix the problem but the light came on again and when I went to remove the sensors I had cleaned to check them I noticed they were both covered in a black soot and the car had been running rough on the highway just previous to that. Not sure what to check next
