I second that I get emails and requests all day long and I expect it because of how I have advertised using this forums and many others. Unless some one is emailing me or calling me that's in my area that I can provide a service for I erase it or ignore the call. My time is money that I use to provide for my family so I cant use it spend it on my business time to help some one all the time. ON here is where others and I spend personal time doing stuff. When u leave a job most 9-5 ers dont get calls or emails asking them about some issue that they are having do ya? I am a MOD on here I get paid nothing I just have free advertising to my website that's all.

I just don't know what the hell it will take for people to get it. Just like a guy a couple weeks ago was bitching about how much electrical diagnosis cost. He takes it to about 4 other shops and spends around 1800 bucks. Comes back huffing and puffing about how crappy Chryslers are and reluctantly signs off on the diag fee. Well, it costs him a $40 sensor and two wire splices plus labor. Total..... $235. Yes of course we're ripping people off. Isn't it obvious???

Well...Now I have seen it all.......

For as far back in my career as I can Remember , My family and friends have been Carrying on an "A**hole of the Year" search......I found this years winner Today.

After being robbed at gunpoint 3 times since January, The Local Parts House installed Audio/Video Security surveillance...Which did A wonderful job of capturing the episode I'm about to describe...

A Middle aged Male walks into the store, and picks up a 5 pack of 20 amp fuses. He proceeds to the counter and pays for them, then leaves the store..

Time stamp 20 minutes later The customer returns apparently enraged, and throws the fuses one at a time at the clerk behind the counter.

"What kind of Horse s**t are you selling here"
"Are they the wrong size Sir"??
"No...They are the right size, But they are no good"- "They blew out as soon as I plugged them in----Each one ...no more than two seconds"

"Well sir, usually that means there is a Short in that circuit...and the fuse did its job"

"Dont give me any S**t, There is nothing wrong with my car, You are selling inferior quality fuses, And I'm going to call the better Business Bureau", "Now reach into the register and Give me back my 2 dollars and learn how to talk to customers"..."I'm not an A**H*le, I know better than to think that fuses only last 2 seconds....

Switch view to the parking lot, where an 07 300 is sitting with the grille and left side marker lamps duct taped onto the front of the car.

As soon as this is posted on Youtube< I'll forward the link......

Maybe there is a feeling from the customer that the tech is presenting an "I am better than you and I can charge what I want because I knows and you you doesn't" attitude?

Over here I know that if I approach a client and explain the problem.. without trying to mke them feel stupid or inferior... that their compuetr is not working because....

I get a better response than simply telling them "I trained... you didn't shut up and pay the money".

Just a thought but trying to balance the conversation since it seems slightly biased in favour of the provider rather than the consumer.

I am having difficulty understanding the differenc in attitude between the USA idea of a forum and the ones we have here in the UK.

Here... if you join a forum you are effectively offering your experience to tohers and they are offering their to you. No one bitches about being asked silly questions because that way you will not be flamed for asking silly questions about htie speciality either.

I am not a tech... (mechanic as it is known here since tech applies more to computing), but I can ask anyone on my local forum the most stipid of questions and not get the slightest slating for it. In return... Each of the more knowledgable mechanics can ask me anything they like about my specialityies (computing... data processing... vehicle tracking and security etc...) without me expecting to generate revenue from it.

It seems to me that although I have joined because I wanted to be part of a community who owned Chrysler and wanted to work to make everyone benefit from ownership... that idea only goes a little way. I guess I had better be careful about what questions I ask.

Fear Not.....That wasnt the point....

I have no expectations of generating revenue by coming here. I never did. I will gladly answer ANY question within the realm of my Expertise that is put to me with complete honesty and sincerity. I am a Tech, Not a phsychologist, and certainly not a A financial consultant. I dont particularly care that someone is a Single Mom, or just lost their job, or whether or not they can call a Government office and force a dealership to warranty a Ten year old vehicle.

I can Help you with car problems, but I can do NOTHING about the the fact that you cant afford it, or you dont think its fair, or you have been robbed by the dealership in the past.....

Most questions asked here require some basic knowledge of how your car works.....If you have NO KNOWLEDGE in this area, I cant help you....I cant tell you to check a Power source to an Ignition coil, if you dont know what an Ignition coil is or where to look for it, Or what it looks like when you finally do find it.

Maybe there is a feeling from the customer that the tech is presenting an "I am better than you and I can charge what I want because I knows and you you doesn't" attitude?
Maybe this is true......However..."My customer" is a person who pays for my goods and services. If they get their goods and services from someone else, That makes them, "Someone else's customer" If they perform or make the goods and services themselves, then They are No-ones CUSTOMER.

The people on this forum are Not Customers... They come here seeking advice, which I'm am glad to attempt to provide free of charge...If you arent a customer, and you arent paying, Why should I be expected to be respectful and provide assistance free of charge , as I am being insulted and called a Thief???

My point was, My time spent here on this forum is MY TIME. If you need help with your car, I'll be glad to help....If you are going to whine about how much it is going to cost you, ...Well..That I can do nothing about...And I wont accept the blame or the criticism of your misfortune.

Just to touch on this briefly

Yes absolutely.....There is this attitude among techs.....as well as Electricians, and Plumbers and Meat cutters....That is BUSINESS...If you dont think your laborer is being fair in his pricing..You are more than welcome to "SHOP AROUND" or pay someone else, or hire a different company.

Always remember...you need something from these people, otherwise, you wouldnt have called upon their services in the first place...

I'm a Tech....And The northeast united states was Just pummelled with the worst hurricane conditions in the last 50 Years...So Im in the process of having My roof replaced.....And I am much in the same Situation as The person with the broken down vehicle.....I dont know enough about The service to attempt it myself...So I Must PAY SOMEONE who knows How to do it......Regardless of how much it is going to cost me, or how unfair I think it is...I NEED A ROOF...So "SAL's Roofing Company" is who I call....
