Has anybody managed to fit a 2 DIN radio head into their fourth generation Voyager?

Yes, but it's not an easy fit because the current radio isn't true double-din due to the rounded edges.

So you'll need to be handy with the dremel! Also, I found the back isn't the right shape as there are the plastic 'shelf' pieces that the current radio sits on, I again had to dremel them out to fit the aftermarket unit in. Luckily the bracket fitted the original radio screw fittings on either side so i could use those.



I'm in the process of writing up a HOWTO and youtube video taking you through everything I've done to get this android head unit in.

Still not sure whether to go ahead with it or to go for a 1 DIN unit. I'm concerned that the retractable screen may prove to be unreliable on the cheaper single DIN units but I'm reluctant to spend £250 plus for a branded unit.
How do you rate your unit so far?

 

Have popped you a private message Alan, but as others probably thinking the same, my thoughts:
Careful, that one there runs Windows-CE (Not android) so I can't vouch for that. I wanted specifically Android (It does take the price up to over 140 quid though) so I can run android apps, google maps, etc so I went for a Hizpo android head unit.
In hindsight Hizpo are a VERY small brand, nearly nobody supports them and the aftermarket/Android modding market don't cater for them (See my blog, it's due to the Intel sofia chipset in them. The RK3188, PX3 or PX5 are more common CPUs and have much better after-market support. Primarily the Joying range so might be prudent to look those up).

Anyway, fitting it is the real trick, you have to dremel most of your dashboard to get it to fit. My plan is to now remodel around it using a filler putty, then probably have to get a rattle-can and spray it black again.

So far I'm happy with mine, I'm probably more able to tinker with Android (I'm an Android app developer as one of my other many hats!) so I've debugged a few of the problems on my unit and fixed them. Again happy to share if anyone needs help/info but it will be quite specific to the Intel-Sophia chips and Hizpo head units.

 

Thanks for that valuable information Andy. I'm going to give it more thought and possibly increase my budget. I don't mind having to cut and shut the existing housing but my missus probably wouldn't approve. I'll look more into the single DIN units before I make a decision.

 

I found this today while searching for the radio harness connector for my 2003, it is Metra part number 95-6539, it replaces the entire bezel: Metra Online 95-6539

 

That was a good find George, especially the mounting brackets that come with that fascia, thanks for that. I recently decided to go for a single DIN radio which I have now installed, see photo.
I have recently become aware that, as per your photo, not all fascia units have the two mounting screws at the top which are concealed by plastic inserts. I don't know which vehicles, Voyager/Town & Country come with the fascias that don't have the top two screws.

I'm probably a bit late to this but did you buy your single din upgrade as a package from ebay or such like and did you retain the CD changer functionality?
