Default Trans Pan bolt Torque

Hello,

I changed the fluid/filter on my 01 Concorde with 59K miles. I had seen a drip and I think the gasket was leaking. When reinstalling the pan and new cork gasket, my Chilton's book said to torque the bolt to 19 ft-lbs. That seems a bit high to me. I will admit that it did take some torque to initially break the bolts free. Do you folks agree with the 19 ft-lb recommendation? I thought 10 might be more reasonable. Also, the change resulted in about 5.75 quarts being replaced. IfI only put in 4 (like the book recommended) and then added as needed after starting the car, I would have started way too low.

Finally, on a previous post I wrote about an engine oil leak on the drivers side by the alternator. On closer inspection, I think the leak is coming from the fill tube to pan connection. Any thoughts on how to fix this? Based on the engine arrangement, I can't even see this part. I'm not sure if it bolts on...

Thanks,
Bill

What I replaced was factory RTV and it was very difficult to get the pan loose (after 7 years). Two bolts on the drivers side front were slightly loose. I think that's where it was leaking. The cork gasket came with the new filter. I've seen that Chrysler now offers their own rubber reusable gasket (about $30) but I didn't buy it. Anyway, I was wondering about the bolt torque specs. Is 19 ft lbs correct?
