Default 2000 Sebring: Crank No Start: Security Light

I have a 2000 Sebring. I drove it last Wednesday and parked it in my garage. I went to start it Thursday and it would Crank but would not start. I have had no previous problems with it running, starting, driving, etc. It was running perfect. Occassionally I would have to force the key into the ignition but that would only happen maybe once a month.

When I go to start the car, my red security light stays solid for about 4 seconds before going off.

I just recently purchased new garage door openers. The openers fit on the key ring next to my keys. I have found a few articles online that states that I might have reprogrammed my key chip? I am not sure if this is true.

I have check a lot of the other problems previously mentioned; fuel pump, battery, fuses, relays crankshaft... No issues there.

I have no spark or fuel. Is there a way to get past the security system or to reprogram my keys without going to the dealership to see if this is the issue?

It is bizarre that this happened the same week I programmed my new openers. The keys I use to start the car are Chip keys. I previously was able to use a copied non-chip key to start the car for about 2 seconds before it would cut out the engine. At this point, neither the chip or non chip key will start the car. Just crank no start.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

Try keeping the garage door openers away from the ignition key. Things like those smart pass doohickeys from gas stations are known to cause trouble. Not likely that you have affected the key but there might be interference if it's too close.

The bit about starting and cutting off after 2 seconds is exactly how the anti-theft system is supposed to work.

If it's not something related to the key, then supply your particulars as Tech suggests as there could be other things going on.

The usual problem with that engine is the distributor.
