A timing chain is not like a timing belt. It will last much longer than a belt. If it were me, I wouldn't change it unless there's a good reason to do so.

Take a good look at the old water pump when he takes it out. Water pumps don't usually fail to pump water because it's a very simple design that isn't prone to fail (except for the seal, which can leak) but if the impeller has lost some vanes it might not be pumping well, which might have something to do with your problem of overheating at idle. Tell the mechanic to look for any other issues that might exist that could cause that problem too, as long as he's in there.

Thanks will do

water pump and labour $250.00, i believe that a great deal, as I cant expect anything cheaper.

I have decide to go ahead with the repairs, and keep my 2006 Sebring touring , I love the way the car drive and seeing its V6 I have all the power needed.

I did some research on the retail valve of my car ( 160,000k) Retail going for between $3500.00 to $5500.00, I didn't though the value was that high, as the dealer was only giving $1000.00 for the car.

Will post the results when the jobs is done on if there were any findings.

If you can get a water pump installed for $250....I'm moving to where you are!

Mine came in at $1750 + tax...took the local Chrysler dealer 4 weeks to sort out...water pump, thermostat & housing, timing chain tensioner (no charge for that - they broke it during re-assembly).

Good luck with yours - I certainly hope it goes smoother, and cheaper, than mine did!
