Default Chrysler sebring 2004 oil switch

Hi guys !!

I have a Chrysler sebring 2004 with the lol switch problem I think.

It's been a years or so and never had any issue regarding the engine.

When I start the car there is no problem. The oil switch indicator is off. But when I drive for about 20-30 KM then, when on idle, the oil switch indicator going on.

After like 50 KM the oil switch indicator automatically goes on when my rpm are below 2000 TR/min.

Do you think by changing the switch that problem will resolve itself ? At the beginning I didn't do a think cause my garage told me it was only the switch but now im hesitating.

Thanks for your advice and have a good day !!

Oh yeah I forgot to say the problem started when I didn't use the car for like 2 months 1 years and a half ago....

It certainly could be the switch causing your oil light to come on. The switch needs to be vented to give a correct reading. Chrysler issued a TSB to install a vent tube. If it gets clogged with oil it can cause the light to come on. Rather than install the tube I usually just drill a small hole in the plastic connector. I would replace it and see if the light goes out. If it doesn't you have bigger problems.

There are three possibilities.

1. Oil sender switch giving a false reading. Not a major problem except if you do have a real issue you won't know about it until it's too late.
2. Not enough oil pressure at idle caused by a bad or clogged oil pump. That's a major problem that will eventually destroy your engine.
3. Worn bearings in your engine. The worst case scenario.

If you want to take a chance rather than buy a $15 oil sender switch that's your decision. I know what I would do. You can also have your garage remove the sender and install a gauge so you know exactly what your oil pressure is.

Hi, please can you advise where the oil pressure switch is located on 2.7 litre Sebring?
I could not find it next to oil filter and looked underneath and could not see sny heat sheild as some advise. Please help. Can this job be done from lying underneath car, how difficult is it? I could not see any switch from underneath.
Thanks

There's a how-to, complete with pictures, over on the Chrysler Sebring Convertible Club website. The switch is on the rear side of the engine. You'll need to get the car up on jackstands or a ramp. It's not an easy job. Getting in there is the hard part.
