My 2005 Sebring convertible is showing the oil light at hot idle 550 rpm after 4-5 years of replacing the old oil pressure sensor. Is there any way of mechanically increasing the engine idle by say 25 or 50 rpms. This small idle increase will solve the oil pressure light issue.

Also, can someone direct me to the instructions on replacing the oil pressure sensor. I can not find mine.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Idle speed is controlled by the engine computer. There's no way to change it unless you know how to re-program the computer.

There used to be a whole presentation on changing the oil pressure switch over on the Chrysler Sebring Convertible Club website, complete with pictures. May still be there. It's not a difficult job but you have to get under the car to do it.

 

Thank you - I was afraid of your answer. So simple to just increase the idle on the older cars - simple turn of the screw - solved many issues.

 

I had bought a $20 EBay throttle body to play with using my Dremel to hog it out and polish it up. I had replaced the oil sending unit and used 10w-30 weight oil to try to stop the oil light flicker, sometimes it worked until the SW Florida heat took over. Long story short, one of the side benefits of the TB work was a 50-75 idle RPM speed, just enough to keep the oil light from flickering. Oh, and I got the crisper throttle response I was after in the first place. Might work for you, too. Also a good time to replace the sensors and gasket on the TB.
