Hi there !
Now I got that well known oil light flicker-issue at idle on my 45k miles 2001 2.7 l Sebring Sedan ,too.
Iīve already spent a lot of time checking out this and other forums about that and to me it seems to be an easy fix.
The pressure switch has already been replaced, but the problemīs still there.
Unfortunately itīs impossible to get this part ,1 05017800AA Wire Terminal/Vent , in Germany.
So I like the idea of drilling a hole to the sensor ,or removing the sealing dart from the connector.
But I have some questions about that.
First:
Which method would you prefere ?
Will it spill any oil from the hole or the connector?
Is this the right location for drilling the hole?
Second:
How does it effect the oil pressure?
Does it really increase oil pressure at idle or does it just keep the oil light from coming on ???
the terminal vent is the back of the connector plug not in the oil pressure switch . Why not drill out the other connector plug you have instead of drilling the oil pressure sensor?
Thanks for the fast replies !
As I read, some guys did the hole to the sensor , others removed the sealing dart from the connector...both methods may have the same effect !?
@DCOTTER:
Thank you for that hint , Iīve already checked out RockAuto , but must have overseen the part.As I searched the right catagory , I finally found it !
Iīm gonna order it and let you guys know about ,if it cures the problem.
BUT I still wonder , what this cable,leading nowhere,actually does ???
The sensor just have one connection , so why add a second plug to it ?
AND how does it keep the light from coming on ?
Does it really increases oil pressure , what I can hardly imagine , or is it more like an electrical issue ?
Donīt get me wrong , Iīm quite sure the vent wire will fix it , but Iīm trying to understand what the problem is all about .
@GLHS:
Iīm quite sure that waterpump is ok ,and there no signs of sludge so far.
I dontīt thing that a viscosity change is a good idea at all.
But youīre prooving the opposite.
Iīm gonna stick to the recommended 5/30 oil.
The sensor is just a switch. If there is pressure, the switch is open, electricity cannot flow through from the light to ground. If the pressure goes too low, the switch closes by a spring, electricity can flow to ground, the light comes on. If the oil passage leading to the sensor is plugged, pressure can't get to the sensor, it thinks there is no pressure and the light comes on. That's why you want to make sure the passageway leading to the sensor is clear.
Oil and filter has been changed ,as recommended , every 3500 miles on my ownership.
Iīve ordered the Ventcable from RA and will tell about the result.
Cheers
As promissed...here are my expieriences:
56 k miles on the car , 3 times new oil and filter since last post.
And mysterious Ventcable orderd.
No oil light flicker since then...at any conditions...outside temperautre in the 90s F ,stop and go traffic ,1 hour traffic jam ...100mph on the Autobahn for 2 hours ...no flicker at all !
Crazy thing about that :
Ventcable seems to work even if itīs stored in unopend box in the backseat
Cheers
My 2002 Chrysler sebring had the oil light flicker for a while and it turned out to be the oil pressure sending unit. Make sure when replacing the unit to clean the area of oil or the oil pressure sensor will read that you have low oil pressure. The part is very cheap and you could have a shop put it in for you when doing your oil change.
