Default Sebring limp mode no cel

1996 sebring 2.5 goes through first second than pops into neutral for a few seconds than locks into second. Speedo works fine. I replaced the input sensor and checked the 3 wire splice and ran a new ground to the tranny. I have a genysis scanner but on a 96 it does not give me to many values. No codes ever stored or any pending codes. Thinking relay and used tcm next, than possibly a solenoid pack. Any ideas or the knowhow to further check any of these components would be greatly appreciated

Check fluid level and quality first. If you are going to throw parts at it, start with the cheapest first and replace the most expensive last. Don't start with the most expensive first. That's what the dealers do because it's good for their bottom line.

The fluid level is perfect and the fluid does not smell burnt and is still red.

So far i started with the cheapest being the wiring, on to the input speed sensor, the relay, and lastly the tcm. None of which changed anything. The resistance of my output sensor seems to be in range and my speedo is working so that will not be replaced. My only thought left is the solenoid pack. If i could find a wiring diagram i could find the signal wire for the solenoid and see if it is getting a signal when it first trys to shift to third. That is my only idea before the solenoids get replaced.

Thanks, matt

The solenoid pack is a lot cheaper than the TCM. Look for them on eBay and the web. I have found them for about 50 bux. It's an easy swap, done from the top after removing the air cleaner box.

Okay i replaced the solenoid pack and it did not change anything. So i decided to drop the pan and the fluid was worse than i thought but there was not any real metal chunks in the pan just the gooey metallic particles on the magnet. So i decided to change the fluid and the filter. Same thing, still shifts one two than freewheels into neutral and locks into second. Is their a possibility of being an internal issue? I am now out of ideas, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, matt

Could be the overdrive clutch, which is supposed to kick in in third gear, but I don't claim to be an expert. It's probably time to get some professional help. You need special tools and specialized knowledge to get inside an automatic transmission. You've probably done all you can at this point.
