2005 Chrysler Sebring 2.4 DOHC vin x

Had a mechanic replacing the timing belt. He was having trouble removing the crankshaft pulley. He said it was seized and never seen one this hard to remove. He tried for a couple hours and then went and rented the proper tool. He heated and applied lubricant..nothing. Then he told me the bolt broke. Offered to replace the engine real cheap for me. Is there a way to get this pulley off?

Nope.....If the proper tool was used on a StUCK pulley...The "FLATS" on the pulley would shear off.....From the picture they are intact...Now...with the correct tool, yes the pulley will come off...But with a Broken bolt INSIDE the crankshaft....How would you ever put a Pulley back On???

Just a question...Why is the motor out of the car??, and what do you plan on doing with the scissor Jack???

 

how can u brake a bolt off inside ne way?? the dampener just slides onto the crank unless he was using the bolt for what ever reason as a point to put ahhh who knows.

 

If the engine is out of the car, you might have luck taking it to a proper machine shop. They MIGHT be able to get the thing in a press and press the pulley off. Then they MIGHT be able to drill the broken bolt out of the end of the crankshaft and re-tap the hole. I doubt that many shops could do it right, and nobody will do it cheap. You might be better off taking up that guy's offer to replace the engine.

 

Thanks for the response. He did not have the Chrysler tool. I got the tool on loan from auto zone and it came right off. The bolt was not broken off inside.

 

The Chrysler tool is a POS. I use a 3 jaw I got from MAC tools like 10 years ago. Use an old 2.2L head bolt for my center. I can impact it and the threads won't damage. Used it like a couple hundred times that way and it still is in great condition.

I dont know why they can't just us the old keyway system.
