Default Making duplicate keys

The following in from the Owner’s Manual.

Underlined words added for emphasis. That is what I am posting about. To be blunt, I am confused. Do not want to waste any of my key blanks.

From page 17:

“4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch and turn the ignition switch ON within 60 seconds. After 10 seconds a single chime will sound and the Vehicle Theft Alarm Indicator Light will stop flashing, turn on again for 3 seconds, and then turn off.”

My questions.

How was ignition switch turned off? Is it automatic? Am I supposed to turn it off? If I am supposed to turn off, when do I turn it off?
