Default Key/remote questions.

I have a 2004 Pacifica. I HATE the key. I am hard on keys, and quickly broke the plastic loop that goes on the key ring. I have fixed it twice with JB Weld, but this time, there is no fixing it so that it hangs on my keychain. It still has full functionality. That being said, I have two questions.

1. Does anyone know where I can buy a metal aftermarket key case that would hold the remote, chip, and key blade? I could have a hardware store cut the key blade, and just insert the guts of my old key into the new, non-flimsy case.

or

2. Does anyone know if it is possible to use a separate remote to open the doors that is not attached to the friggin' key? I know I would still need a key with a chip in it for the car to start. If the answer is yes, I would appreciate a link to the specific remote that would work for this. I have spent a significant amount of time googling this, but haven't had any luck.

Whoever decided that a cheap plastic intergrated unit was a good idea needs to be beat severely. Any insight would be appreciated.

Default RE: Key/remote questions.

Well, I'm sure you can have an alarm installed which will include the door opening feature and you could also include the remote start. This will bypass the factory alarm and give you a separate remote just for the doors and remote start if you so choose.
