'08 T&C Touring Pkg Power liftgate not working properly

About a week ago, our power liftgate stopped working properly. The liftgate will open remotely with the key remote, ceiling button, and by hand. When opened remotely or by pressing button, the liftgate is lifting normally until it reaches a certain spot then starts to pop up and down, causing the alarm to beep, then it goes back down whether you are standing there or not. BTW the door is very HEAVY! Get out of the way, quick! When the liftgate tries to close, it will not securely lock as if the locking mechanism is "locked". The inside button nearest the lift gate does not work now at all. The only way to get into the back of the van (which we do often because of 3 athletic children) is to manually open the liftgate, have someone hold up the liftgate while the other person quickly grabs their equipment or groceries (lol) then carefully close the door. If you allow the door to go down on its own, the door latch does not secure itself. But if you slowly lower the door down and press in the door will secure. What has happened? And why all of a sudden will it not work properly. Having this power liftgate was one of the selling points for this van. Thanks for any help!
