Default 2.5 CRD Voyager noisy turbo

Hi whilst accelerating I hear my turbo kick in and whistle up but the harder I push the engine the turbo whistle gets louder into more of a whiring screaming sound.
Possible bearings on their way out?.

It's a 2.5 CRD with 140k on the clock so it's done it's time in there. Can also get a grey/white smoke at times under hard acceleration.

I think you've answered your own question there, if the turbo is bearings are screaming then they are shot

Usually a whistle from the turbo is regarded as a good sound, indicates it's turning ok.
But nowadays any kind of smoke from a diesel exhaust is frowned upon. If the injectors need cleaning, mechanics pour some "Forte'" into the diesel fuel filter.
But you need to compare the loudness of the turbo with another similar vehicle to decide if there is a bad noise from your own turbo. Incidentally the engine oil needs to be a good synthetic, rather than mineral.

Just in case check the charge pipework and intercooler, for hole, something missing of split hose.
