Default 2001 rear power hatch problem

My 2001 has a power rear hatch that willunlatch witha push of the button but will not continue to go up. I have gotten it to work a few times after I've manually unlocked the hatch with the key. It worked15 times in a row where the door would go up and down automatically but then I started it and after shutting it off it stopped working. It will always unlatch automatically (lift approx 1") but wont raise the door. Any ideas? thanks.

You mean the latch assembly in the hatch or do you meanthe sensor mounted to the latch? Is there a way for me to get the codes myself. I know my generic scan tool shows nothing. What would the dealership charge to check for codes on that latch? Thanks for all the help here.

My '02 is doing the same with the rear hatch. Do I need to replace the latch mechanism? The door will start to open, then it just seems that the latch will not disengage and allow the hatch to continue opening.

Most of the time the latch assy is the cause for the power liftgate not to open. I am also seeing the same problem with the aspen too.
