Got a bit of a saga I'm trying to sort out with my 2013 Town and Country (Grand Voyager in Australia) Limited. My wife was driving the car up a very steep hill and the shaft snapped in two (see image below). Symptoms were no drive, no reverse. Took it to the local transmission man, who said the torque converter needed replacing. Six months later, had a replacement TC installed, and the car seemed to work fine.
That is, until I started to get a rumbling at low speed when stopping or turning (after being at least 40 mph or so). I also got engine light codes P0740 (torque converter clutch solenoid - circuit malfunction) and P0869 (transmission fluid pressure (TFP) sensor - high), sometimes a pending error was P0841 (transmission fluid pressure sensor A - range/performance problem) and P0218 (transmission over temperature condition) or P084B (transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch H - circuit range/performance). Note that I had no engine codes prior to the mechanic changing out the Torque Converter.
The mechanic told me that the rumbling was related to the torque converter lockup not releasing. He swapped out the solenoid that drives the lockup mechanism, and the car sat there fine and did a few laps around the block with no issues. When I first took it on the highway and went up to 60 mph, then back down to stopped, the car rumbled badly and almost stalled. So I think it was fine going around the block when the gears were low (maybe 1, 2, 3) but once it got to high gears the lockup didn't release properly. When I turn on the vehicle now, it will rumble as soon as I put it in drive or reverse (neutral and park are fine). The car feels like it is stuck in 4th gear and wants to take off, even without accelerating.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I should try next?
