Default 3rd time car has cut out under hard acceleration

In the space of about a year for the third time always when i am joining the motorway and i accelerate hard the van cuts out Saturday it was a bit dangerous as there was a car behind me

After that it sort of hesitates before restarting. Key dance brings nothing. Any ideas please

classic signs of air leaking into the fuel system, though could also be a leaky injector or safety valve.

surprised you didn't get a P1130 though.

Really need to monitor actual vs requested fuel pressure during hard acceleration - preferably full throttle up hill to put maximum demand on the fuel system. If that confirms it is not able to keep up with the required pressure then leak back test on injectors, check for leakage out of the safety valve, replace fuel filter and check for air leaks in the fuel lines.

As it has only happened 3 times, it may be the sum of a lot of little problems rather than one big one....which is going to be harder to track down.

Regards
Richard

Richard is the man for this fault regarding this fuel pressure issue. The fault I've got but have learned to avoid, the power cuts down, prob temp limp mode, on acceleration but engine doesn't cut out. Still to test my pressure/temp sensor, got it ready with connectors but...

Thanks Richard. I forgot to mention there is always a puff of black smoke when ghis happens, I don't if it helps paint a better picture for you

Any idea how much a leak back test is roughly. ?

leak back test takes about 15 mins....I would guess a garage would charge for an hour at least.

If you are anywhere near Cambridgeshire or the A1/M11 corridor then I'll be happy to take a look.

Richard

Check you tube as there is several vids as to testing rail pressure loss. Just noticed one yesterday of guys car not starting very well. Then shows bottle filling up from from pressure leak back valve. It's a case of where do we start when this happens, cutting out or not starting. You've to start somewhere and this is a good start followed by injector leak off tests.
Should we all be doing this at service intervals so we are warry of whats coming and be prepared.
