That's a shame, but £450 is a reasonable price for the work involved.
If you have the space and time then by breaking it for spares and selling them on ebay you'll get a lot more money than selling it complete

That is a shame but my line of thought would be that it will cost you a lot more than £450 for another vehicle and if you do buy something else you could end up having to spend money on that too. Have you considered taking it off the road until after Christmas when you might be able to get the money together for the clutch.

well i think im a little calmer now, but i ended up scrapping my voyager 
im so not impressed as the mechanic is a friend of ours and he offered to scrap from his garage so i didnt have to tow it home, i was silly not to ask the price and all he gave me was 102 i also cant help feeling that he will be taking several "new" things i had replaced , someone offered me 200 for it as it stood but was too late by then, anyways to keep me mobile i have had to settle for a little megane until i can afford a newer chrysler after christmas but ty for advice along the way guys

God one mechanic is still rubbing his hands I'm sure. AlanC your giving the lady nightmares to come, but sorry to say I agree would never buy a Renault Again.
But saying that have seen small cars going really cheap on your local E-bay by Money saving expert. com...Fiat panda 2005 low mileage not that long ago for £850 blimy. There certainly is bargains out there but too many dogs.
