Sounds like clutch job to me..
My clutch was worn at 200.000 and had a sound until pressing the clutch too.
I replaced clutch and all was fine.
Clutch job is pretty expensive at the dealer so I bought the parts on Ebay and found a good and cheap mechanic €400,- parts and labour including the (cranck ?) bearing. Noise has not come back in last 100.000 km

sounds like a replacement gearbox needed. About £100-£200 on ebay. Fit a new clutch and release bearing at the same time.

when you can get a gearbox for so little money I would replace that with the clutch and bearing like tfb says.

Strange tho, manual gearboxes seem pretty strong to me. Mine is almost 300K km now and still shifts perfectly smooth

Manualgear box need ATF+4 oil think it's 2 - 2,5 litters , it's common if clutch is broken but still working with mabye some noise, hard to change gears ect. I have change a few where the center plate in the clutch was crack and was not abel to disengage 100% also the springs in center was broken.

My 2002 ltd. 2.5 CRD has done 490000km on 3 clutchs first one was slipping 2. and 3. was broken in center.

I change transmission oil every 40000km and use to drive up a ramp to get angel to filler hole on gearbox (to raise oil level a little) never had any transmission problems only clutch.
