Default Oil pressure light.

Hi All.

My car - Grand Voyager 3.3, 2004. For some time I have had the oil light stay on after starting. At first, I did the immediate checks but nothing amiss.
Each time, on turning off and restarting the light went out straight away.
This fault was sporadic at first but recently has become permanent, so on every start I have to do it twice to get the light out. I know there isn't a problem with oil pressure as I have driven with the light on and no knocks and rumbles!!
I bought a new pressure switch but before fitting, not being able to release the electrical connector(cuts and scars), I cut the wire. Now the light should have stayed 'out' (open circuit), but turning the ignition on it lit and followed the same pattern as before - 2 starts and the light still went out!! No pressure sw. in circuit.
Now I know electrickery in cars is different these days, and the wiring in that circuit goes through a module, but anyone any ideas where the fault might be?

JJ.
