Power rear gate trouble
I have searched the forums for info on this problem, but I didn't see another description that quite matches my problem. I have a 2001 T&C with the power lift gate, and it has worked exactly once since I bought the van 2 years ago.
With the gate closed, when I push the button on the remote or the interior panel the following happens; the taillights flash, the door locks all cycle, the warning beeper sounds, sometimes the gate motormakes a louder click and makes a sound as if it's trying to run, and that's it. The door doesn't move at all. With the door open in the up position, pushing the button seems to do nothing at all.
To open the door manually I must turn the key while using the hand switch above the license plate, whether the vehicle is locked or not.
I was at a junkyard and saw a van just like mine so I pulled the motor assembly and the control module in the hopes that replacing one or both would do the trick. (See the photo in case my descriptions are not correct) Unfortunately the situation did not change... So my question is, what else should I look at to correct this problem?

Sometimes it can be that the motor doesn't see its latched all the way and will not work. basically it gets out of calibration and freaks out. I know there was an updated part to fix this and there was a recall out there for a similar problem. It was to replace the power liftgate control module. Recall number was E06.
I Had the exact same problem on my 2001 T & C. To the T! The correct fix for this problem is a new lift gate modual found in the lift gate itself. It is the part that power latches the gate closed. That part ran me $260.00 at the local dealer. My gate has worked perfectly since replacement. Good Luck.

Anyway, all of these switches are built into the latch mechanism, so go get a new one (if you get one from the junk yard and find you have the same problem, it is likely the junkyard one is bad this is a really common problem on this van.
I had the same problem with my 01. It is not the "liftgate module", it is the latch mechanism that fails.(Sounds like you meant to say "latch" Dingo, but don't want to see any confusion.)The Latch has switches in it that tell the computer what position it's in (fully, closed, popped, open). As the computer goes through each step of the opening and closing process, it initiates the next step based on input from these switches. So if the computer commands the door to pop, but doesn't get the right signal from the pawl switch, it just stops the opening process.

Are these switches accessable or adjustable?
Thanks,
Bill
