recalls and computer updates
Hello all, Is there a way to find out if any recalls were fixed on your vehicle? My 03 T&C is having some down shift problems and my search on here came up with a few checks. One was a computer update or recalibrate i guess it would be. I'm taking my van to the dealership to deal with the clock spring next week, should I ask them to check if the van is up to date with any recalls? And These computer updates, are they free? lol
I sent an email to my local dealership asking if any old recalls were outstanding and they kindly replied that there were none outstanding. only gave them my vin and registration number, even offered me a free vehicle health check and report which I might take them up on when I get it back on the road
Ok Thanks Dan! I'll bring my vin number to the dealership when they check out the clock spring on my 96. My first thought was to ask the dealership but I'm still wondering if the dealerships charge when a computer needs an update or reset, are these updates part of the recalls?
Most of these are whats called Technical Service Bulletins or TSBs, not recalls. TSBs are just advisories to technicians working in the dealership and are done at customers expense. Sometimes if a warranty is still in effect they will do them for free. Sometimes they do them for free and there's no rhyme or reason.
Not sure if this still applies but in the past you could go to the Dodge or Chrysler website, punch in your VIN # and get a report back of what recalls have been complied with on your van. Might look into it.

Sounds like you have a very proactive dealer at your disposal.
Checking recalls online at the specific brand website is a handy tool as well.
I think you might be right, popped into thier parts department today to pick up a new hose (water pump to oil cooler connector pipe u-shaped) and although it cost £27 for the smallest little hose you could find, they were very helpfull and they only ordered it Tuesday afternoon so didnt take them long. I couldn't find it anywhere else for love nor money. I will certainly be using them again, maybe sooner rather than later
GV sounded a bit poorly today but hoping the new hose and fresh antifreeze will help that out and if finances allow a new battery.

Chrysler (dealers) are less then intelligent by overpricing service and parts by so much, so any clever dealer should maintain a very, very good service standard to attract some other customers than lease companies.
The Chrysler dealer in my area is shocking expensive in parts and service and hugely arrogant in their attitude towards clients with a car older than 3 years
My second car is an almost 30 year old Mercedes and I can buy any part or get good service for surprisingly decent prices at the MB dealer, but most important (to me) is you get treated as a valued customer, even if your car is older than 3 years.

I know what you mean, just because my car is 13 years old doesn't make me any less important and shouldn't be seen any different to those who buy a new car every few years. if anything us customers with ''older vehicles'' should be seen as a good market target offering good value parts and customer service because lets face it, we often need parts to keep our GV's in good nick and it would save us so much time, effort and money if we knew we could get it all from the main dealers at a decent price.
So far a have dealt with many main dealers of different make vehicles such as Renault, Vauxhall, Ford and BMW and each of those where enough to put me off main dealers for life.
I just hope that my newly found Chrysler dealer can keep up the good service so far but still need the prices down just a bit
