Default Roof bars

Is there an easy way to remove the roof bars (the one's that go across the car, not the rails running front to rear) as I will rarely use these and it would probably (marginally) reduce fuel consumption and noise without them on. Mine's a 2001 model if it makes a difference.

I believe its the same as my 97 GC.
You slide it back and out the back.

On the ends of the crossover bars.
Pinch the underside clips to make it slide past the lock points on the track.
And walk it back to the rear.
On the back of the tracks is a cover.
Pry it open and you can slide the rails out.

It wont increase your gas mileage by much but it will be a lot quieter.

Good Luck,

Tom

Thanks for this - checked mine and the cover is at the front (hope that means mine isn't fitted the wrong way) but followed your advice, walking it to the front and they came off perfectly. Many thanks
