Question What is this? Underneath part identification

This is where my lack of vehicle knowledge will really show! But can anyone identify this part for me please?
On mine (2.8CRD Right hand drive UK model) it is at the left (as sat in a seat facing forwards) and just to the front of the aux/cabin heater.

The reason I'm trying to identify it, is because my scuttle/wiper tray drain is dumping it's water all over this 'box' constantly and I'm thinking this isn't a great design and planning on trying to re-route the drain so it misses this bit of kit and also the metal chassis around it as it's causing rust to develop.

Thanks in advance as always and Merry Christmas everyone, may all your GV's last trouble free this coming year!

Aha, thank you!
In which case I'll definitely look to relocate the scuttle drain so it's not constantly drenching this with water from all angles.
