Angry Bug Splats

Just got home from a cross country round trip of about 5500 miles. Picked up about 5,500,000 bugs splatted all over the front of my car. On the last leg, I went through a thunderstorm at freeway speed that got rid of the hairiness from the bug wings and bodies but there was still left a disgusting mess from the dried blood and guts. Well, I figured if the t-storm could get that much of the mess off, my power washer should get the rest; easy, right? Wrong. Didn't touch it. Didn't think a Brillo pad was a good idea on paint so I didn't go there. Final solution for me was a terrycloth rag, Dawn, hot water and lots of elbow grease. All pretty again.

Next time try soaking it in WD-40 for a little bit. That stuff works on removing road tar so it should help loosen up bugs as well. Would still need to clean with Dawn after to remove the oily residue, but perhaps less elbow grease to remove the bugs.

I hear you. Last year took a road trip through North Dakota and ran into a bug swarm at night. Pelted the windshield like rain. Son in the passenger seat recalled passing a group of motorcycles a few miles back. Had to really s*ck for them.

Front end was covered. Was able to scrape off with the squeegee at a service station once we got to Washington and ran it through a car wash and came out clean.
