I get a severe misfire and flashing engine management light, but only on kick down. It has had new plugs and a thorough check by an auto electrician. I don't want to damage the engine so can I disable kick down permanently to allow me to rev it hard whilst overtaking?

 

Something is wrong if that happens. The severe misfire and flashing CEL will certainly generate a code or codes in the computer. Get those codes read and make any necessary repairs. Re-programming the computer is not an option.

 

Thanks. I take your point. Misfire cylinder 6 is the code. Coils swapped, but same code. I get the suspicion its more than electrical unfortunately.

 

Check fuel injector. Might try a can of fuel injector cleaner. Cheap, can't hurt, might help.
