I didn't condemn the company, I said I'd never buy another one of their vehicles. If i spent $30k on a car built by any one of the companies you listed and it needed major engine repair after 30k miles, you could bet your *** i wouldn't do it again. That's basically all we as consumers can do, no? And I'm not real confident that I'm going to get "virtually trouble free service" from this car, but how could I be?

This is the 1st Chrysler I've ever owned, and the only reason I bought it was because my wife wanted it. I've owned GMC's my whole life (up until the car I'm driving now, which is a Toyota). If I had a similar experience with a GMC, I wouldn't have bought a 2nd one.

$1,117. This is apparently a common problem among vehicles with the 3.5L engine in it. Google 'chrysler 300 rocker shaft assembly', or '3.5L rocker shaft assembly'. The flurry of repairs has tailed off. Mine came later than most because of the low miles I've put on it.

That sounds right. I think $275 each set and 4.5 hours labor. Ours haven't tailed off, but most of them lately have been rental cars. The funny thing is, they've used these engines since the 90s, and all of the sudden they have issues with them. As a matter of fact since the fun bankruptsy of 2008, vendors have been generally crap quality control. Car companies don't make most of their own parts, they sublet it out. That's why I say you're going to run into some sort of issue with all of them. There's only so much control they can have over the entire network and only so many vendors who actually are tooled to do the job.

Keep us updated on how the call in to Chrysler goes. Stay on them, call back every couple days or so.

Dear Joseph:

Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center
regarding your 2006 CHRYSLER 300 TOURING.

We regret the fact that you have experienced issues with your vehicle.

A review of our records indicates that your vehicle does not currently
require service for any recall campaigns. If your vehicle is involved in
a future recall campaign, you will be notified promptly by U.S. mail.
Please keep us informed of any change of address.

You may also access the self-service recall site on the internet to
check on your vehicle's involvement in any future recalls that are
published. Simply go to your brand website Owners page: http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners
and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) where appropriate.

If you are experiencing any problems with an issue you feel deserves
attention, we certainly recommend that you contact your local dealer to
arrange an appointment so that they can inspect the vehicle and
determine an appropriate course of action.

For your information, recalls are issued by National Highway Traffic
Safety Association and they are Vehicle Identification number specific.
If the National Highway Traffic Highway Traffic Association receives
similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a
safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and
remedy campaign.

Thank you for your email inquiry.

Sincerely,

Alex

Basically make them understand that you've spoken with numerous techs and other customers and are aware that the scope of the problem is vast. The rest is up to you. It's possible they will contact the dealer and open a case number.
