2007 Aspen 5.7 Hemi
OK, this one is weird and of course when you take it to the shop it doesnt do it... loud, I mean lod "popping" noise coming from engine compartment mainly when it's cold then goes away after about 2 minutes.... as this is "popping" the engine shakes....now it's not a lifter clicking noise, I know what that is. Sounds like if you take a wrench and hit the plastic valve cover type noise... sometimes goes bamm bamm bamm right in a row and sometimes a hit and miss... like bamm few seconds later bamm then maybe bamm bamm...so not constant all the time and doesnt happen every morning and of course never when I leave it overnight at the shop. like I said, it does go away and the motor shake stops after about 2 - 3 minutes of running... no codes !!
I recommend trying to get a video of this happening. Not only would it help for us, it would help for your mechanic.
Personally, I don't see how it could be a MDS solenoid as these do not engage at idle. You have to be at certain speeds and RPM's for them to engage. But I could be wrong
To disable the MDS solenoids, you will need a tuner. I'm using a Diablo Intune 2 right now on mine.

something about the solenoid going out and the lifters snapping back??? never heard of that before but someone mentioned it. someone said low oil pressure to the lifters would cause it but that is one hell of a popping noise.... it's definaltly not a lifter "click" noise.... it;s not all the time either, today, nothing. but when it does it can be bamm bamm bamm bamm.....and it can be bamm (pause a few seconds) them bamm (pause a few seconds the bamm bamm ... so it is not a steady continuous bamm... like is said, take a screwdriver/wrench or anthing a smack the valve cover... thats what it sounds like. as it is happening the engine shakes.... after ir is running 3-5 minutes, it stops bamming and the engine smoothes out
Well I had this thing three months now... like the vehicle but what a lemon... dont know if I should part it out or just take the 200.00 bucks and send it to the crusher?? already lost money on it....2007 Aspen 5.7 195,000 miles.... scared to actually drive it anywhere, seems like every time I do, something else happens...
Well you can't really call a vehicle that is 14 years old with almost 200k miles a "Lemon". It's been driven. Things are bound to go bad eventually. It all depends on how it was taken care of. Sounds to me like previous owner hid a few issues from you that you should of been aware of before purchase.
ya they did hide a few issues.... but what the heck, only paid $500.00 guess I shouldnt complain too much... now #1 is mis-firing... water pump is leaking.. dont know if I want to do a tunes up and some stop leak to get me a couple more days/weeks???? if I decide to go with plugs and coil, any suggestions?? 5.7 2007 I did email the people who had it before me.... she said they owned it for a few years and never did anything, not even oil changes

It's not the MDS and I would be hesitant to say it's anything in the valve covers. Usually, noises in the valve train coincide with the engine speed. You could get a automotive stethoscope and use that to track the noise down.
Are there any check engine lights?
