Default New keys programmed but not talking to computer

I have 07 Pacifica , bought as a project and the only key I got from seller did not have a battery ! Had a locksmith come and he programmed a new key to a new immobilizer . He took the old immobilizer and the new one to his shop and pulled the info from the old one and programmed the new key ! When we installed everything he said the computer is not communicating with the key . He said if I got another computer he would program it fo $50 ( that’s fair) . My question is if the computer is bad ? I have check all wiring as thorough as I can and see no bad connections or fraying . Also I get a linking error when connecting the Code reader . So unless I am missing something I would assume the computer is bad ? Any other things I should consider ? Thanks

Disconnect the car battery for a few minutes to reset the system.

ok well first I have no idea how he can program a key or a skim module when its not installed in the car?? If you replaced the skim a scanner would need to be used to transfer the VIN and skim key code to the new module. There is a procedure for this in the scanner. Then you program the keys. SO how he managed to power up a skim module and program the module is a new one to me.
