Default Engine stops at red light

Hi, I have a Chrysler PT Cruiser 2001.
This summer on the Autobahn in Germany the speed indicator dropped dead. Then followed that the car "jumped a bit like a horse" when accelerating and the engine dropped dead at stops at red light or slowing down.
The Swedish garage at home found an indication at the check that it could be the sensor by the gear box that I changed in France some week earlier. We got a new sensor but that didn´t change the situation.. we havn´t fixed the speed indicator yet..
A German garage on the way home said that the malfunction was due to the speed indicator being down, but the Swedish garage doesnt believe that..

Does anyone has a(nother) answer? Woudl very much appreciate that.. Thanks.

Engine stopping at red lights may be the Idle Air Controller (IAC) motor sticking. Part of what it does is too increase the amount of air allowed past the throttle plate to increase the rpm when you take your foot off the pedal. If it is sticking it may not be moving quickly enough. Does the engine restart and idle initially? It may be possible to clean the IAC but will likely begin sticking in a few weeks.

Automatic transmission? The speedometer indicator dropping dead sounds like a bad output speed sensor mounted on the transmission. There are 2 identical sensors next to each other, the outermost one is the output speed sensor. I would suggest swapping them but the input speed sensor is a bit of a pain to remove. When replacing the sensor, there may be some fine metal filings on the end of the sensor. The sensor is a magnet and will attract the metallic dust from normal clutch wear. Not a problem but too much on the sensor will cause the sensor act erratically. Sometimes wiping the dust off will solve the problem.

Oh, and welcome aboard.

Thank you very much for the answers! I will pass it on to the garage.

I did through Youtube videos come to know that there are two sensors myself and I have passed it on to the garage already, I think we just changed the input sensor and they seemed a bit surprised when I talked about an output too..
We havn´t talked about the IAC. I will pass it on.
We did talk about sending the whole instrumental panel to a repair garage in Gothenburg, where they send others if we had to go further.
The engine restarts very perfectly and do not idle initially, I think..I must check again, but in urgent situations like green light I am quick on my way.

Thank you for welcoming me aboard! I love my old Chrysler and I want to keep her as long as possible!

Hi again, we must have misunderstood each other. My car is a MANUAL one. The garage says there is no double sensors. only one.
