Hi fragmented

The relief valve is an innocent looking thing....
Take the plastic lid off the engine top, follow the common rail (where all the pipework to the injectors originates from) its the cast aluminium "tube" across the top of the engine. On the n/s (passenger side on UK vehicle) its located at the end of this "tube" all very accessible. Theres a small diameter flexible that takes any fuel back to the tank (I guess).

But!....this may not be your problem....someone added tomy thread and their problem was the pressure sensor.

Cost of valve was something over £100. This is a Bosch part and common to lots of other vehicles. I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else so I got the diesel specialist I found to supply and fit. They billed me about £40 (I cant really remember) to fit . It was very reasonable.
This specialist is based in Maidstone, Kent and I would recommend them, they know what they are talking about. It was obviously a common fault to them, they had the part in stock.

Hope this helps..hope you fix it, mined bugged me for about 2 years! Still love the vehicle though!

If it's a Bosch part go to a Bosch agent and he'll order it for you. Example Renault Scenic DCI one was about £150 from Renault, Bosch agent £75. Quite a few years ago.

Been too busy to look at any of the suggestions made, I'm two weeks into the three week contract - 2300mls so far.

Anyway since Friday I've been able to start it without a spray.
I got angry with it and stamped the throttle peddle up and down while it was turning over and it starred, and it's started doing this ever since.

Does this point ot anything?

Thanks guys.

John

Fragmented -- what you just put suggests something wrong with fuel metering control by the micro. Curiously, since I started to run mine without the IOD fuse mod. as an experiment to save the parasitic battery load, the same change in starting has happened to me as with you. When cold, it starts the same as ever, no foot on accelerator. But when hot, the accelerator needs a good prod to start it. Mine has no trouble with cutting out etc., it starts always, runs the same as with the IOD fuse in position.

Time for an update.

Taking the suggestion from Rodger I invested in the leak off valve and since fitting it about 10 days ago it's started evey time so I'm hoping, after all this time it's sorted and this saga may be of help to others with similar issues.

Thanks to everyone who offered help and especially Rodger for coming up with what looks like the solution.

I'm going to start another thread with another couple of small issues [oh no] so if you have the time have a look.

Thanks

John
