Default Rear VES not working

Thought I'd start a new thread as my specific issue isn't anywhere so far that I can tell. So, the rear screen for the VES system doesn't work. Classic signs of the ribbon cable needing replaced. BUT. I messed around a lot with it and found a weird occurrence leading me to believe it may be a software issue. In the VES menus of the main radio where you can turn VES on/off, I can start up the rear screen while it is still closed. When I open the screen, it shows the Chrysler logo and then functions normally but only for about 5-10 seconds before it goes into the split screen thing it does when one would think the ribbon cable would need replaced. Go back to the radio and it shows the VES as off and it can no longer be turned back on until I close the screen. I've tested it repeatedly and had consistent results every time. Works for about 5-10 seconds (haven't timed it) then stops and the front main radio shows that the VES is now off and pushing the button to turn it back on does nothing at all. Was going to buy a ribbon cable before I figured this out but I'm not sure it would work at all if it was the cable.
