Default thermostat broken?

Dagnabbit!
After it seems my crankshaft seal is broken and I need to replace that it now seems my thermostat is broken too..
My engine temp was below half all summer but I thought that was normal (?) Now its getting freezing here in the Netherlands and now my temp wont go up at all.
What is a normal temp for a 2.5 CRD?
And any tips and tricks to replacing the thermostat?
See my attachment, that was the temp after a 45 minute drive....

Your question, "And any tips and tricks to replacing the thermostat"?
See my easy mod. on the matter, saves a lot of money and time.
The temp. in your picture is defo wrong. Your 'stat. will be jammed open, although it does take longer for a diesel to warm up in winter. Also see my mods various for speedier warmup.

BTW the Aux heater under the car is not working either... I hoped it would start working since I connected the fuel line to the heater again and reset the car Computer (by disconnecting the battery) but not working it seems..

Ok I'm about to collect my new Renault 5 thermostat..
But still not completely sure which side should point to the engine?
And where exactly to drill the 1.5mm hole?

Yes you have it right, the wax pellet always goes to the engine. Where your little drilled pressure hole goes is wherever you can drill it safely, I put mine right though the rolled lip - see here.
