Default Apparent valve train tick!

I recently purchased a 2007 Pacifica touring mod. w/ the 4.0 L motor and 6 spd. trans.
it currently has 2K miles on it and since new it had a faint ticking sound after warm up.
It has gotten louder and last week it spent 2 days in the Chrysler garage with no resolve.
even though the S.M. agrees it is quite loud, they maintain that the factory says they are aware of the problem
and engineering is working on a fix/ TSB. they maintain the problem stems from the accessory belt and tensioning pulley
and advised the dealership not to touch the valve train as they will notpay warranty on it. So after $ 30k on for a new ride
they tell me to put up with it, and somedayI might get mine fixed. I called ChryslerMonday morningand they are still off for Easter.
I guess Fri. , Sat. and Sunday wasn't enough time off.

I love the car as does my wife as it's her car and she drives it 60 mi. per day, 5 days a week and I don't need an engine failure
at her expense. I have been a marine 2&4 cycle serv. tech. for 42 years, and would like to thinkI would know valve train noise
when I here it. Sorry to ramble, any one had a similar problem ?

If you think it is still valve train, can you warm up the car until it makes the noise, then remove the belt and fire it up briefly to check if the noise still exists??I am talking30 seconds at most maybe. This might throw a code so you would have to have a code reader on hand. This is just a suggestion. Guess You will have to call mother chrysler on a weekly basis until they fix your car.

Thanx for your interest. I considered trying this, but am reluctant to tamper while under so-called warranty.
I have been a marine serv. tech for 42 years and have delt with manyfactory service issues and I can't figure
out wht the dealer won't try removing the belt. it will surenarrow down the odds. I havealways been Chevy first, Ford
second, and Chrysler never, but I liked the looks and feel of the car, and truthfully, this car has totally pleased me so far
lifter noise excluded. I know first hand Ford and Chevy both have there sorted problems and lack of concern for the customer.
U.S. car makers, just keep sending your future customers toJapanese cars. My first choice if money would have allowed, was a Honda Pilot my friend has one and it is a super ride.
P.S. A THOUGHT TO PONDER ? if Chrysler is supposedley working on a solution to this problem, why does no one seen to have heard of this problem !!!!! AM I THE ONLY LUCKY ONE THATHAS THIS PROBLEM?

Sounds like you hav ehad plenty of experience and know what noise is what. There were problems on the 3.5 motor

I have a 2005 Pacifica that has excessive lifter noise. I was
expecting to see a sludged engine when we removed the valve
covers for inspection but it was very clean. There were to
spots on each cam (lobes)that were "eaten up" We replaced both
cams and started it and it was pretty quiet on initial startup
and went totally quiet on the first test drive. We let it sit
and drove it again and it started to tick again and has gotten
progressively louder and is now as loud as it was before the
cam replacement.

I know they have a bulletin for 2004's for lifter noise on
startup, but this is a differnt set up. I guess it is possible
that the lifters are just bad but I don't think so because
they quited up after the cam replacements.

I have pulled the pan and it is as clean as the valve cover
area.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for everyone's help! I pulled the valve covers to
inspect the rocker shafts. The intake rocker shafts have a
bolt that runs through them that doesn't allow it to move. The
exhaust has dowel pins that hold them from moving. Those dowel
pins were broken off. The rear exhaust shaft was protruded
out. Oil is delivered through that shaft to the lifters. When
the shaft moves or rotates, the holes don't line up anymore
and the lifters get starved for oil.

The fix is to replace the rocker shafts, the rockers (which
include the lifters) and a pedestal kit. Fairly easy repair.

go to motorkote.com and buy some of there hyper lubricate additive/ it reallly works you can check it out on there web site
