thank you for this post so much. I lost my keys and I have been using the spare. My spare was cut too short to fit the trunk and i thought the trunk release was broken. My trunk was full of my items and also my husbands items i was able to keep after he passed away. I was devastated. I dont have alot of money to go to dealer or get locksmith. I was able to get into the trunk with the knowledge you posted and i was able to retrieve the items. Thank you so much it's almost Christmas and this is all I wanted was to get the last of my husband items. I cant express my gratitude. Merry Christmas

O4? I’m giving it a shot. About the disconnecting battery connections. My battery is in fender well, guess they weren’t on that year? Or are you talking in fender well?

Please check out this link. I have verified that pulling the IOD fuse for 2 minutes and inserting will activate the trunk button to the left of the steering wheel without the key being in the ignition.

You can disconnect the battery from the engine compartment. The red and black cables from the battery have mounting posts on drivers side. The easiest to disconnect is the black negative cable attached to a stud on the driver's side strut tower. Note these are also the points where you would attach the jumper cables in the event the battery has died.
